I would give the painting job that D. Dalton Paint Co. did for us a 4 star review. The paint job itself was great. The lines were clean, and they cleaned up after themselves. The sales person I met at the paint store told me that Danny always buys high quality paint, and I was happy to hear that, as I wouldn't even have known to check on the paint quality. The only (very minor) thing with the paint job is that D. Dalton also did a lot of drywall repairs, and the areas they repaired have a different texture and show through in certain lighting. The reason that I gave a 2 star review is that I did not hire D. Dalton primarily for a painting job. They are listed by the BBB as a drywall contractor and painting company. (Danny has since told me that he does not intentionally advertise as a drywall contractor, but the BBB has him listed this way 'because of the services he provides.') I contacted Danny about some widespread drywall repairs needing done throughout our living area. It was obvious that several attempts to repair these issues had been previously made. I specifically asked Danny if he does these kinds of drywall repairs, and he said he did, so I asked him to come quote me for the repairs. We discussed painting as a secondary objective of the job. A few months later, some of the areas the crew fixed were opening up again, and it appeared that they had been tightened and taped only. I called Danny, and he came out personally and started to tape again, but we had to keep calling him in between coats of mud drying to come back and continue the work. I told Danny I thought patches were necessary in areas where the cracks had come back repeatedly after taping. Danny told me that he does not do these kinds of drywall repairs. He does not "hang new drywall." He recommended that I contact a drywall contractor for this and told me that taping and tightening joints are standard protocol for painters. It was very frustrating that his website says that they "do all kinds of drywall repairs" when they do not do drywall patches where necessary. There were also areas of tape peeling away from the walls in areas where the wall was perfectly in tact - I believe due to not enough mud bedding the tape. I would definitely have been happy with the paint job D Dalton provided, but I think that it would be great for Danny to fully discuss drywall work, limitations and the differences between what his company does compared with the work that actual drywall contractors do. It is confusing with the BBB listing mistakenly listing the company as a drywall contractor. For us, we spent $1,550 on a drywall & paint job for 3 walls of one large room, and then we had to do several drywall patches, some tape repairs and repainting. After a dozen emails back and forth, Danny did agree to attempt to make this right, but not before becoming very agitated, accusing me of accusing him of doing shoddy work and being dishonest (which I did not, I told him what was going on and what I felt the correct fixes were) and telling me that the situation was far to stressful for him to deal with considering that his 7th child was about to be born and he was purchasing a new home. We gave up working with Danny, learned to do drywall patches ourselves, did them, and repainted. It has been several months since we did that, and the areas we did still look great. There are unfortunately more areas where the tape D Dalton applied is peeling that we will still need to find time to fix.
