Dai is an experienced Divorce, Bankruptcy, and Criminal Defense attorney who lives and practices in Iowa City, and the surrounding counties.
After fifteen years or so of developing my legal skills, benefitting from the advice and support of my colleagues and learning the ins and outs of the local practice in Johnson County and the surrounding areas, I decided to open my own law firm. I found a cute little office in an old house on the Northside of Iowa City, bought computers, a printer, and a coffee maker and opened the doors.
My main areas of practice are family law in all its various forms, Chapter 7 bankruptcy, and representing people in criminal cases when they don't make the wisest choices, but the focus of the practice is the client. I represent people from all walks of life and try to make access to the legal system affordable. No-one wants to hire a lawyer, and people do so mostly in times of crisis. It can be intimidating and scary. So I want to try to make my clients as comfortable as possible as I help my clients achieve their goals and lead them to make the wisest choices in their circumstances.
I'm delighted to note that that a lot of the people I have represented in the past return to see me when life throws them another curve ball, or they refer me to their friends and family, and some of my clients have even become friends over the years.
I also find that my knowledge in one area of the law can inform decisions in other types of cases. It may be important to understand how the criminal law system works during a divorce. Various types of criminal cases require a knowledge of family law. The knowledge of family finances I have from my family law practice is a great asset during bankruptcy. Again, the focus is the client in his or her circumstances, and trying to reach the best possible outcome, and the more possible solutions one has to consider the better.
Since I have a client-focused practice, I match my approach to each situation to the circumstances required. Generally, I try to find solutions through negotiation. I have found that confrontation often makes matters worse, drives up the costs for my clients, and has a negative impact in the long term. But there are occasions when a direct and uncompromising approach will be more effective, and lead to the best outcome for my client. Then I have the tenacity and courtroom skills to provide the zealous representation that my client is seeking.
I hope that you find my Facebook page interesting and informative. I will try to post articles, links, and other posts that I think relevant to my practice, and keep you informed of how things are progressing at the office. If you have been a client of mine, please post your thoughts on your experience on the Review page. It will be good to hear from you!
PLEASE NOTE: Just a reminder that if you choose to contribute or comment on the reviews, or post any content on this page using your name, the fact that I may have represented you will no longer be confidential.
