Story

Who thought that when I graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1995 with a degree in marketing that I would be running my own business making cakes four years later? Not me!

I’m Andrea Burns, and I started Daisy Cake Company shortly after my second son was born in 1999. I worked for a local advertising agency for two years before deciding it was not what I wanted to do after all. When my first son was eight months old, I quit work to be a stay-at-home mom. However, being idle is not a trait that runs in my family. I had to do something (like being a mom wasn’t enough!), and I had always dreamed of owning my own business.

I dabbled in tole painting and decorative furniture painting before I considered cake decorating. While planning a baby shower for a friend, I was disappointed with the cake design options available, so I decided to make it myself. Thankfully, my techniques have improved since then! I started doing cakes for friends and their friends, and thanks to that wonderful business builder, word of mouth, the rest is history.

I started doing wedding cakes a couple years later, after introducing my work at a few local bridal shows. Weddings now consist of 90% of my business, and again I’m thankful to those friends and customers of mine who have been so supportive and eager to share my name with others.

Although Daisy Cake Company has grown considerably over the years, my fundamental beliefs remain the same. I started out with the desire to offer people something unique and original, things that they could not find elsewhere. This is reflected not only in my designs, but in my cake flavor offerings as well. I’ve also tried to differentiate myself from others, when others zig I zag. I am not a pastry chef, my training has been limited to some local cake deocorating courses taken early on. When you are passionate about something, you find a way to learn. Therefore, I am a self-taught decorator, and the baking? Many hours of trial and error! I am always looking for new ways to do things, to come up with ideas none other has thought of.

Creativity is my lifeblood, and I’m just grateful to be able to share this with others. I truly see my work as edible art, and when others can appreciate that, it is all the more rewarding.

Best Cakes in town. Daisy Cakes did our rehearsal dinner and wedding. the cakes were absolutely outstanding. Not a morsel was left at the end of the evenings. Strawberry with buttercream frosting and almond with mocha filling. Delicious!!! Wonderful to work with! A big "Thank you!"

I am picky about cakes because, although fondant looks good, it doesn't taste good. So I'm always looking for a tasty, visually-appealing cake. Daisy Cakes was DELICIOUS!!! And she communicated well to get the cake looking perfect for our theme as well. Will do business with again. Thank you! PS - Lemon was delicious.

This company did my wedding cake. Now let me tell you it was absolutely amazing. It was exactly what I told her I wanted. The cake was beyond beautiful. The filling was raspberry and lemon with white cake. The layers were perfectly filled and spaced. Her fondant work was flawless and it was truly the best fondont I have ever had not to thick like most but the perfect balance. I will use this company again and will recommend them highly. It truly was perfect......

Was so excited about my birthday cake I had something very detailed in mind- contacted daisy cakes and was looking so forward to picking it up -she seemed very confident -when I arrived at the location the day of my birthday it was to late-I was shocked .....even more shocked when I went inside- I was very turned off the house smelled of cat litter and was very poorly kept- we won't discuss how disgusting the bathroom was- I'm just glad I didn't see the kitchen - I've been dealing with a tragic incident that happened on Monday - called daisy cakes this morning bc I overpaid her 20$ Which I realized as soon as I left but had to make it to the biltmore house ...she basically told me I didn't which is fine not that I would ever get a cake from her again anyways it was a 90$ cake it was lopsided so uneven the color wasn't right and the worst part was how it tasted everyone tried to be so nice and eat it and compliment it but I could tell they were as disgusted as I was! Wish I would have made my own and saved some money or even taken my business to food city for the cake and I'm NOT a food city fan! Super disappointed.... And I lost an extra 20$On top of it! I wouldn't do business here! Don't understand why most people gave her a good rating my experience was terrible

I contacted company a few weeks prior to a significant birthday for a disabled person who had not been expected to live this long. I received an email the very next day stating they were available for a cake the day I requested, and that they would call the following day with a price quote. Q week went by with no call or email. I emailed again and got no response. Perhaps they got a better offer and are for-profit, but they could have at least contacted me to decline. Fortunately for my friend, there are other such businesses that are far more professional.
