I have experience both renting from Dakota Realty and working there as a part-time undergraduate student--I cleaned, painted, and fixed up homes for multiple property managers at the company. Through my experiences, I met many property managers who cared about their profession and treated their clients and employees well; they did so when the situation was often challenging, resulting in them taking calls or helping clients late at night and over weekends and holidays. Such work gave me new perspectives as a renter--even as I rent from other companies in Brookings while getting my graduate degree. While working for Dakota Realty, for example, I faced the challenge of responding to various requests and concerns--all requests that had merit, of course, but made the position difficult nonetheless. However, Dakota Realty continues to surprise me with their demonstrations of aplomb, kindness, understanding, and intelligence, even when others may seem to lack empathy and understanding. They continue to act in such a way that I find it necessary to show them my support in any way I can. 

I suggest Dakota Realty to anyone who is looking to rent or buy a home, and I look forward to purchasing a home from them in the future.

I honestly wish I could rate Dakota Realty worse than a one star. Upon reading others reviews of this company I honestly don't think that the five star reviews are real because I have had a completely different experience than they say they had and so has everyone else I have talked to that rent from Dakota Realty. 

The reviews say that the realtors really care, are good at what they do, accommodate your needs, and are friendly. I don't know anyone at Dakota Realty that would match that description because when we deal with Nadeen and Kris often  and they have shown many times that they don't care and have never been friendly to us. I would also argue that they are good at what they do because not only does it take them days to get anyone to fix anything in the house but I would say when the heat stops working 3 times during the winter and no one comes to fix it for 2 days they aren't very accommodating of out needs. I also find it weird that there is a five star review by someone who has the same last name of two different people who work for Dakota Realty.

My experience with Dakota Realty has been far worse than their already terrible reputation and has made me wonder if it would be better to become homeless or continue to rent from Dakota Realty.

I have had nothing but problems after problem renting with Dakota Reality and have found that they are very unfriendly and unhelpful to get any issue fixed. It always takes a long time for anything to get fixed and I often get blamed for whatever the issue is! Property is not nice at all and the property management team is terrible at best. Would never rent from Dakota Reality again!

I have been having air conditioning problems. When I came back for the semester, it wasn't working. I called my property manager who then called an outside service to come fix my air conditioner. They fixed it the next day. It worked for a couple days, and then stopped again. Once again, I called my property manager, to have her call them again to fix the air conditioner. It took a couple days, as I wasn't the only one with issues; I get that. They tried to fix it. But it was a cool, rainy day so they couldn't tell how much cooler the air coming from the air conditioner was than the outside air temperature. They told me that they had done what they could, and that if it stopped working again, it would likely need to be replaced. 

Well, it stopped working...again. Because that is how the world works for me. So the next morning (Wed, Aug 24), I called my property manager. She was surprised that it had stopped working again and that she would call them. I told her that they had said last time that it would need to be replaced. 

Today, (Mon, Aug 29) I called her around 9 am to ask if she had heard anything about the air conditioning and to have her give me a call back. I left my phone number.

Tonight, I arrived home from a long day at school to find that my air conditioning hadn't been replaced. I was not a happy camper, as it is nearing 80 in my apartment. I called her, once again, to ask what was going on and asked her to call me back. She hadn't answered either of my calls. 

I called my mother to vent. So my mom proceeded to call the realty company that manages the property and get my property managers personal cell number. It was the same as the one I had been calling. My mom then called my property manager. She answered the phone this time. She proceeded to tell my mother that she has one on order and she doesn't know when it will be here. She told my mother that she couldn't find one anywhere in town. She told my mother that she hasn't been answering my phone calls because she doesn't have an answer for me. She then told my mother that if she didn't like the way she was handling things that I could go live somewhere else or go get one myself and put it in myself. 

I wouldn't be calling her twice a day if she had just told me that she had ordered one and that was the best she could do. 

I have been living without air conditioner for an entire week now. And my property manager cannot take five minutes to call me and say "Hey, I ordered you a new air conditioner. I'm sorry that it is taking so long, but there is nothing more I can do."

Great living spaces available! Been living in a rental for two years now and had little to no issues thanks to Dakota Realty and its staff! great people to talk to and very friendly, strongly recommend this establishment!
