Real story on the coffee: Batdorf and Bronson. So great beans, but hardware and it's operator have seen better days, and the result is about mediocre. Also note they do not do iced drinks in colder months. 

If you were poking through reviews as I was looking for where you were going to get you morning cup of Joe, I'd keep looking.

Quaint shop by the sea with a mostly contemporary collection. Love the views from the children's section. A great place to pass a couple winter hours.

I only manage to get to Orcas Island every few years and a stop at Darvil''s is always one of the highlights. It's not a very large place, and the owners make every inch count. They have very good taste and offer an astonishingly wide range of titles. The staff love to talk books, which is a rare thing these days. I have found their recommendations very helpful. They sold me a copy of Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead before it garnered all the attention it did, so they are not just pushing whatever is popular.

Amazing atmosphere, kind knowledgeable staff, and a carefully constructed selection of literature ranging from kids books, to local authors, to the classics, and everything in between. Bibliophile Paradise. 

After spending a few years living in Tokyo, my wife and I came to Orcas island on our honeymoon. It was so refreshing to find a nice and quiet bookstore in East Sound. The staff recommended a couple of books to us, and we enjoyed them so much that we were back within a couple days for the sequels. There's also a coffee shop inside featuring locally roasted coffee from Olympia. 

The bookstore was amazing, the coffee shop was a bit fancy for me, but over all the experience was wonderful. I'm definitely going back, and I'm going to recommend it to my friends.
