EDIT* After reading some previous reviews, I see now that they are rude and aggressive to many other customers about the tip. There are other reviews dating back years about this. It's a shame because apparently there are some talented nail techs here but some are very rude.*** I will never go to Dashing Diva on 72nd again. The nail tech who did my nails today was rude and demanded a higher tip. As she was charging my debit card she asked me to give her a "tip in cash". I only had $7 cash on me, so I handed that to her and was going to leave an additional tip on the debit card receipt. She looked at the $7, scoffed, and said "this isn't 20%... the total is $94.50." I told her I was going to leave an additional tip on my card because $7 cash is all I had on me. She was rude in the exchange and I felt embarrassed in front of all the employees and customers who could hear the conversation. She did a bad job on my manicure the edges around my cuticles are messy and she kept having to fix mistakes- see pictures. She was also visibly annoyed when I asked for a third coat. It was obvious that the color needed another coat, otherwise, it looked transparent in some spots. I just don't understand why she took that tone, especially since I was very polite and friendly and we exchanged nice small talk when I first sat down. Lastly, the total for the gel manicure and regular pedicure was $94.50 before tip, and I paid $113.50 after tip. This is more expensive for a gel manicure and regular pedicure than other salons in the neighborhood. What a shame because I've been here before and always had a pleasant experience, despite the higher cost. I'm attaching photos of some of my nails that were just done minutes before writing this review.
Kim was extremely kind and detail oriented with my gel manicure. I was not in any rush, and it was a great experience overall.ServicesManicure
So many things wrong with today’s experience. It all started great on a positive note, I arrived early for my 2:15p appointment, was seen at about 2:25p no biggy. I called ahead and explained I needed do a UV gel fill- in. I normally go around my home in New Milford, NJ. However, pressed for time and ONLY because I had a gift card given to me for my birthday for this location, I took advantage of my lunch break time. The nail specialist was nice. She asked if I was on my break from work and I said “yes, I have an hour”. Minutes later she asks, “you’re not on your break, right?”, and I kindly responded, “yes, I have a little less than 60 minutes”, as if she was asking for the first time. Ok, no cause for alarm. A little forgetfulness happens. At first I thought her slow pace was more of a good precision tactic. By the 40 minutes, when she was still taking off my gel color which would normally take less than 20 minutes anywhere else from on top of my original UV gel job from my main nail place. That’s when I realized she’s just really taking her sweet time and isn’t experienced with what I needed. Now, an hour and 20 minutes into this nail appointment, I tell her I want to pay before she puts the nail polish on, followed by “$50, right?” She tells me it’s $70. I speak to the manager and explain that their website says it’s $50 for UV gel fill- ins. At first, the manager refused and said her website was out of date. Me, in my kindest gringa voice I’m actually Latina though explained that that is false advertisement and unfortunately not my fault. She honored the $50 and I still gave 20% tip on that. So that was a positive outcome. I then had to file my nails myself because a few of them were crooked and not smooth, and she was about to start painting my nails without making sure everything was good. Now, we’re at the 90 minute mark, and my nails are about to be painted. I was about to say “forget the nail polish, I’ll paint them myself”, when I realize I still have pink gel color on my nails from before. She didn’t take it all off and was passing my nails off as done. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to be a nuisance, and just let her paint my nails. No base coat I’m not sure if this is standard, I didn’t ask, ain’t nobody got time for that. Now, knowing that we’ve surpassed my 60 minute appointment mark, the lady painted my nails at a moderate pace, but was missing the sides. I kindly and I say kindly because I made a conscious effort to not offend her tell her she missed a few spots. She proceeds to paint slower ‍. By the time she did the second coat on my right hand I was over it, and told her still, kindly to forget about the second coat on the left. Again, I kindly said “thank you” and walked out to air dry my nails. Got to work over 40 minutes late. There are some things I can put up with, but a crappy finished product is not one of them, especially when you’re trying to over charge me. If the finished product was good I wouldn’t mind paying extra, because at the end of the day it’s the UWS, understood. First and last time I go here.
I gave a $5 tip and on a manicure and massage and the woman came back demanded I pay 15% tip which was $2 more. They also said my friends manicure was $25 and raised it to $35 when we arrived. They were extremely rude ! Very disappointing as I used to like this place a lot.
I’ve lived in NYC for 11 years and been to hundreds of nail places. This is by far the worst manicure I’ve ever gotten. I paid nearly $53 for a gel manicure that is already coming off. My nails are very short and broken but the technician didn’t even paint my whole nail.
Horrible and worst experience ever. Steer clear. My technician charged me $997 instead of $99.70. After dealing with this “mistake” for 15 minutes, I understandably and still quite generously tipped her slightly less than my standard 20%. And then I got reprimanded by the manager for my tip AFTER I dealt with the “mistake” which I’m now convinced based on the employees’ behavior was not a mistake. Steer clear of this business. There are plenty of better options and better small business owners to support.
I regret not trusting the bad reviews and low star rating for this place. I wasted 2 hours of my day here. Pedicure is terrible, polish was put on too thick so it didn’t dry properly and my nails were painted poorly. I paid $70 for the mani/pedi + $14 tip but have to go to another salon tomorrow to re-do all of it because I go on vacation this week and the job they did is so bad and even after sitting for 30 minutes to dry they still smudged.
Rudest service I’ve experienced here or in any nail salon. Waited for a previously made appt; technician was rough and rushed. Necessitated me asking her to please not pull on my legs but rather just tap me to let me know to change positions. When asked how much to tip, technician repeated me and stared in an effort to embarrass me into leaving more. I explained why small tip and she walked away. I won’t patronize this place again. Nasty service.
Should have read the reviews! Incredibly slow despite assuring me my time limit wouldn’t be a problem and ended up with a bumpy/uneven gel manicure for significantly more than I usually pay.
I went for a simple manicure and gel removal. Not only did they charge me almost $40 for this, they did a very poor job. I still have glue on all my nails and the shapes are all different. A huge mistake to not look at my nails before I left… a worst mistake, coming here in the first place.NegativeValueServicesManicure
