This is a great place to go for long walks, walk your dog, enjoy nature, or go for a bicycle ride.  There are some good covered picnic pavilions and tables too.

Beautiful area with lots of land to hike. Great place to walk your dog.

My great grandma used to take me here so it is somewhat nostalgic to me. I have been going here for years. It is beautiful! There are so many different ecosystems in one place. You have forests, prairies and swamp like marshes. There are many beautiful wild flowers and plants. You will also see many different insects and tons of animals. Two years ago I saw a snapping turtle in one of the ponds with a 2 foot shell. It was huge! If you are in the area and up for a hike with minimal elevations to climb or descend, give Nelson Lake a shot! I've attached several photos that I took there this past labor day 2016.
