As a student from 2017-2018 I can safely say that Discovery Academy was the best decision I have ever made. It was also the hardest, being away from home and living in random Utah is weird but it is SO worth it. the relationships are my favorite part, the bonds you make as a student with your peers and staff are so deep and profound. The schooling allowed me to join college classes online which helped me transition to home life. Hope you choose the path to discovery for yourself or your child.

Great place for finding who you are and what youre good at. Mentors are hard workers and give 100% effort into making sure every student has what they need to succeed. Landric the director of discovery connections is one of the coolest and hardest working guys I've ever met he's not only a director tho he's also a really good mentor and person to talk to when things get out of hand.

My 16 year old son was discharged in Dec 2013 after spending 15 months at DA in Provo, UT. We spent a lot of time and money, through an educational consultant, to find the right fit for him. Prior to and during his time there, I would go online and read the "reviews" of the school placed on various websites created by over zealous opponents of these types of programs, that were created to frighten and disturb parents. I even went as far as developing a relationship with one of them and asked for them to send me recent information, or proof that abusive conditions existed. She couldn't. It is possible that there was abuse decades ago, but can assure you that I haven't heard of anything concrete in the last 10-15 years. It wouldn't surprise me if those people have several google accounts and review under different names. My son's experience at DA was very helpful. He was under the care of extremely concerned and competent therapists and staff. The academic component was probably the weakest, but very much in the proper context of the overall goal of the school's program. My son came away with a deeper understanding of his issues and some tools and resources to learn how to become a better functioning person. He has moved on to a more traditional boarding school on the east coast, where we live. He still has a relationship with his therapist, and found some great role models in the staff there. I never had reason to suspect abuse, or misconduct by any of the staff there. He was able to send me letters regularly that I doubt were "reviewed'. We also had unsupervised phone calls on a regular basis. There is no punitive isolation, other than some time in the library alone to reflect on negative behavior. We were very pleased with the team that worked with us and our son at Discovery Academy. We feel our son had a very successful 10 month stay. The therapists and staff were in tune to working with teens. The therapist that worked with our son had a great sense of humor and always eased our anxieties on our weekly call. Our son liked and respected him rather quickly. During his stay the therapist and staff worked with our son on coping skills, and the time away gave him a chance to mature a bit and catch up on school. It was a much needed time out for the whole family. As hard as it was for our son to be away from home, he actually enjoyed much of his stay. He made some great friends with the other students and also the staff of the home he was in. He would actually love to go back for a visit! It’s an extremely hard decision to drop off your child and entrust their care to strangers, but we felt comfortable from day 1 that Discovery Academy was equipped to handle everything.

Of the two other treatment centers I have been to, Discovery was by far the worst one. The staff were complete idiots, therapists were unqualified, and the living conditions were almost unbearable. In the end I ended up getting pulled because my "qualified," therapist Matt K. refused to meet with me for a month, billed my parents for the non existent sessions, and then spread lies and confidential information to other students, and persons outside the program. If you want your child to actually receive the services that are supposed to be provided I would recommend Elevations or Logan River Academy.
