The attorneys office doesn't even contact the victim before plea bargaining during pretrial (forget restitution, they didn't even give me a heads up that anything was even set for date yet). I know they aren't required to but really? I get stuck with medical bills, and the defendant gets...nothing. ACTUALLY the defendant gets the complaint filed destroyed in a year. So thank you Rhode Island court system for now making me aware that it is totally acceptable AND forgiveable to run around Newport like a wild animal randomly attacking people. I mean honestly how bad could a sprained neck and a near $600 ambulance bill be? I guess they wouldn't know because they never CALLED or even sent a LETTER to me. Apparently a no contact order isn't worthy of notification to the victim either. So, to make a long story short, my review of the Newport District Court is...what a joke.
