I absolutely love this company! I will not store my belongings at any other place but Dockyard Storage. I have had several different units with them over a period of about 6 years or more and have had great service everytime!

This review is a “NON LIBEL” review as it’s based on my own true experience with this company. Dockyard storage associated with U-haul for equipment rentals took advantage of us by unscrupulously adding fuel charges and a CDW to our bill. The vehicle rented was a U-Haul cargo van (16mpg) my wife and I rented for a couple hours which accumulated 10 miles total, from one end of a street to another practically. To begin, they slipped in the CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) without appropriately disclosing the charge and service, I would have accepted the charge had I been advised what it was for. At the time it was about an hour before closing time and the representative appeared to be rushed and pre-occupied with friend or co-worker while attempting to taking care of us, he simply advised where to sign and handed over the contract and keys. According to the NC General Statutes Chapter 66 Article 28 states that “ A rental car company shall also include all price advertising the daily rate it charges for collision damage waivers; shall state in such advertising that collision damage waivers are not required”. Furthermore they proceeded to charged us for fuel when the vehicle was in fact returned at the fuel mark specified by the contract for a no fuel charge. When contacting Dockyard to dispute the charge the representative who sounded like the one from the day before whom we rented from was rude & lied stating that the vehicle was left with the gas tank at barely above half a tank, when it was actually returned at just about nearly three quarters of a tank as indicated by the contract slip. A dispute for the charges has been filed with U-haul, and a formal complaint regarding Dockyards business practices associated with U-haul’s rental equipment, the final charge should have been roughly $31 or $41 with CDW not $59.24, I have rented 17’ U-haul trucks for less. My sincere advise should you do business with this company by choice, is to document everything by taking pictures or video showing the contract, the gas marker before and after working with the vehicle, along with mileage, and dropping the keys off “with timestamps”, furthermore do not throw out any gas receipts even if it’s just for $2 worth of gas. I strive to maintain a professional, courteous and honest business practice for the company I work for and represent, therefore I’m extremely displeased with this company’s business practices and ethics through their staff that represents them, regardless of how little or great they defrauded us. Never again will I do business with Dockyard Self Storage for any rental equipment.
