OWNERS: STEVE & LISA BEAGLES
Our history is as rich and flavorful as our porterhouse steaks!!!!

Doe's Eat Place was established in 1941 by Dominick "Doe" Signa and his wife, Mamie. Doe's father had moved to Greenville, Mississippi, in 1963 and opened a grocery store in the building that now serves as the original restaurant. The family lived in a house behind the store. The grocery store, which the Signa family called Papa's Store, did well until the 1927 flood. After that, Big Doe Signa went into bootlegging to help the family get back on its feet. After several years he sold his 40-barrel still for $300 and a Model T Ford. Around 1941, Mamie received a partial recipe for hot tamales. She improved the recipe and began selling them. And that was the beginning of Doe's

I've heard a ton of good things about this place and have been waiting for it to open. Had a chance to try it out tonight. We were greeted and quickly seated. They have the different cuts of steaks in the front display so you can get an idea of what you're ordering. Got to meet the owners, they were great! Very personable and did an absolute amazing job transforming the old Beagle Bagle building into a cute, cozy, homely feeling kinda restaurant. We ordered the porterhouse medium rare with the fries that it came with since they don't have mashed potatoes. The porterhouse are at least 40oz/2.5lbs and up. The steak was so tender, literally melted in my mouth. The texture was on point, definitely a good piece of meat. Here's where it fell a little short for us. Our steak came out just a hair over medium rare, but it was fine, we know it's a new restaurant so they're still working out the kinks. We both felt like the steak needed more seasoning. Since it's such a thick cut of steak, you definitely need to be more generous with the salt and pepper. The crust was great, it would've sealed in those flavors perfectly if it was seasoned. We had to accompany our steak with different sauces that were on our table. The service was great, atmosphere wasn't white table cloth kind of place...I like that about it. All 4 tables around us received small house salads, but us...so we weren't sure if it's complimentary or what. Overall it was a good experience other than our steak being a hair over medium rare and under seasoned. I will try it again in a few weeks and update my review.

Quite disappointed by my meal. We were seated in a room off the main dining room area that had a humongous television on the wall and a football game was playing. Seriously? If I want to watch TV while I eat, I'll eat at home. My $70 steak was a real let-down - it was full of gristle and fat. Just not a very high-quality piece of meat. Doe's has a problem - they have to figure out if they're a sports bar, or a steak house. I won't be going back, but if you decide to try it, get the filet. At least you won't be paying for fat and cartilage.

We've been here twice and both times were excellent but this most recent time was beyond all expectations. We have a 1 and a half year old so eating out at a nice steak house just doesn't happen often. We decided the atmosphere here is friendly and comfortable for us to bring our little one for an early dinner and we were not disappointed. Our waiter Michael was great and immediately brought our little guy some unsweetened apple sauce without us even asking. Another employee offered to walk our little guy around if he got fussy. You won't get that family friendly atmosphere at any other restaurant with this quality of food. Of course most of you reading this will be interested in the food and not the joys of eating out with a toddler. Well it doesn't disappoint. Everything from the tamales to the pecan pie was amazing. Definitely recommend the chili and cheese on the tamales. The steak deserves its own paragraph. We ordered the porterhouse to split between 3 adults and a baby and it was perfect. Cooked rare plus exactly how we like it. The char was. Just right while being perfectly rare inside. No sauces or toppings needed for these steaks. They are juicy, tender, and just the right amount of fat for flavor. We will definitely be back and love having an excellent steak house in town that doesn't require us to get a babysitter. Thank you Michael and all the employees at Doe's for such a wonderful meal.
