Downtown Frankfort Inc

About

A non-profit partnership between Frankfort, Franklin County as well as corporate and individual sponsors. We focus on downtown revitalization and economic development while also maintaining historic preservation.

Story

Downtown Frankfort, Inc. is Frankfort's Main Street Program. We are a member-organization (you can join...visit www.downtownfrankfort.com for details!), headed by a volunteer board and our executive director. As a Main Street program, we use a "four point" approach to economic development in Frankfort's Historic Downtown. Each point has a committee (want to volunteer...shoot us an email at [email protected]!) that undertakes projects and initiatives to further improvements in their area.

The four points are:

Design -- The folks who keep downtown looking good! Current projects include working with the City/County on improving streetscapes and sidewalks, an online building inventory to help market our available spaces, and overall preservation of Frankfort's historic character.

Organization -- The folks who help keep everyone engaged! This committee works with our membership and merchant groups to keep folks informed and involved with DFI. We are also working to improve Downtown's publicity in the community and the region with a variety of marketing ideas. This committee also organizes the annual DFI Membership Reception...coming in Spring 2014!

Promotions -- The folks who bring you the awesome events! DFI organizes the annual Summer Concert Series on the Old Capitol Lawn, the Candlelight Tour, and quarterly ArtWalks. We also help promote other events occurring in downtown and organize pieces of larger events such as the Governor's Downtown Derby Celebration.

Economic Restructuring -- The folks who are helping with business retention and development! This committee is working to improve business conditions in downtown and to help fill our empty storefronts. Current projects include the upcoming EntrepreViewer project and working with elected officials to develop economic tools to attract and improve investments in downtown.

Want to know more? Want to get involved? Have a cool idea? We are always looking for more folks to engage with us and help make Downtown Frankfort thrive! Message us and get involved in making our community even better!

Surprisingly small downtown and the State Capitol of Kentucky which is beautiful, but it's really quaint and there's lots to see and do. There are a number of historic distillery's downtown and nearby. The Frankfort cemetery overlooks downtown and is the final resting place of Daniel Boone. I would highly recommend a short trek to Andy's Artisan Bread, near the Capitol. They prepare freshly baked croissants, pastries, breads and have the best coffee, definitely worth a visit.
VISITOR but a KY resident.. This is simply a lovely town. There are so many attractions to the area and the prople are lovely, nice & so helpful. One of the neatest things I noticed was the AMAZING ART WORK painted on the outside of soo many buildings. I didn't get to see more than a glance at most and of course didn't/couldn't take photos while driving. Just driving around looking at the art could be a fun adventure. Highly recommend stopping down town and just walking around..
First, let me say that the Friday night concert events in Frankfort are ALOT of fun. We've had beautiful weather for it each night so far. But, Frankfort, PLEASE, c'mon! Put the stage back on Broadway facing toward St. Clair! Turning the stage away from Broadway/St. Clair is an utter failure!! Noone can hear the bands/entertainment as it is now. People are complaining and going to stop coming. PLEASE Frankfort, get a clue.
I love my city. Every morning coming to work, every delivery driving through the historic area, seeing the river and driving over the singing bridge bring me joy. Our shops have everything to offer you could want.
Amazing city with beautiful historical buildings and sites. A place where you really feel at home even if you live thousands of miles away. Enjoy the slower quiet side of life and visit them.
Lived here all my life. Wonderful for new families trying to find a new home or someone wanting a peaceful place to retire.
A nice place to visit. Kentucky state Capitol and the area around Main street
A lot of people in Frankfort like me and Scott Perry have been trying to get the car show back down town.It crazy they want do it.This town is anti-growth.
Cute shops, interesting food, well marked landmarks for a self guided tour and free parking.
