Marianne is a psychoanalyst, trained in traditional psychiatry half a century ago. Her knowledge of psychology is primarily based on the works of Freud. Her practice is completely devoid of the modern therapies shown to be most effective; cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, internal family systems, EDMR, hypnosis, mindfulness, etc. I experienced a profound lack of compassion, understanding, and a complete ineptitude one would not expect from a Harvard Medical School graduate. Sessions were "talk therapy" in which I spoke about the issues I was having and, in hindsight, realize there were dozens of concrete ways I could have been helped at the time, but instead was repeatedly asked "well how do you feel", resulting in circular conversation and immensely frustrating hours- a methodology that I can only conclude was designed to keep patients coming back indefinitely. I hope for her patient's sake that she has retired, as she did not keep her training and education current. EDIT: I just saw that she completed her Psychiatry residency in 1994; which is confounding and disturbing. She was arrogant to choose to provide 'counseling' in lieu of referring patients to a LICSW or certified counselor and giving solely psychiatric treatment (read: prescription writing).

5 August 2015 - Vacationing on the Martha's Vineyard and our 16 month old daughter needs to see a doctor because she has a bad cough and runny nose. I did a search to find a local doctor and found this page for Dr. Marianne G. Goldsmith, MD. She was very rude and short with me because she is "semi-retired". I asked her who would she recommend but her reply really threw me for a loop! Instead she then proceed to tell me she was on her way to an appointment and I should call her later on today if I wanted to talk. Then she hung up on me. I wouldn't ever take me child to her because she simply doesn't have bedside manners to talk to me as a parent. RUDE!
