Scott Schneider is the best child "Psychiatrist" in the Sioux Falls area. The statements of hit or miss need more education. Psychotropic drugs are a hit or miss. 1.) There is not one drug for one disorder that works every time. 2.) There are many psychiatric disorders with symptomology so similar that there may only be one symptom that sets them apart. So without the trial and error there is no way for a doctor to narrow down and diagnose correctly, and diagnosis can take many weeks to a year or more, especially in cases of disorders like my daughter's bi-polar disorder. Some psychiatric diseases aren't or can't be diagnosed properly until after a hospital stay. 3.) Some diseases can't be diagnosed until teenage or adulthood. 4.) Scott is a Psychiatrist, not a Psychologist. Notice the MD after his name. This means he is there to medically and prescriptively treat the disease and to make sure that the medicine works or not. A Psychologist more often than not does all the testing and sends their results to the Psychiatrist. 5.) All medical conditions are a guessing game to start out. Scott Schneider is a DOCTOR just like the doctor you go see for your broken arm. The big difference here is that there are very few brain diseases that can be seen. So if you need help with the school district go to and advocacy agency for help. If you need a battery of mental tests run, go see a psychologist. and if you need help with the day to day coping of the disease, go to a counselor, then make sure all the reports are being communicated with all those involved on the patients behalf, then and only then will you be happy with the results you get from the Psychiatrist, you remember, the one with the MD after his name? But don't put down a man that saved my family. Because if it hadn't been for Doctor Schneider's persistence my daughter's disease (and many other children I know) would have gone misdiagnosed.

Agree with Bryan. Hit and miss with meds. He doesn't like being questioned about his approach either. Told us that a stimulant would only stay in my daughter's system for 12-14 hours...meanwhile 3 days later she's much worse off than without the medication. Refuses to get involved with the school system. If you think your child may be a "difficult case" that will require some effort on your doctor's part, do not bother with this doctor. The one thing that struck me was that he was trying to diagnose our child having only spent a few minutes with her. There was never a true evaluation period where the doctor was able to see both the bad and good for himself. This seems like a short-sighted and unwise approach.

This doctor is bad. He is a hit and miss, trial and error. I would recommend not going to him by any means. I have a sibling with special needs who sees him, and he has not a clue what he is doing. Medication after medication, not having the necessary brain capacity to pass this case on too someone more knowledgeable. Beware of this doctor.
