I couldn't be more satisfied with Dr. Horner and his expertise. I was having all kinds of issues (lack of mental clarity, exhausted no matter what, wondering if I was going to die, hives, migraines, chronic and widespread pain, thinning hair, and a lot more). When I saw my GP in internal medicine at MU, I got sent around to a lot of different clinics and specialists, and one of them could do more than tell me they saw no problems at all. (Don't get me wrong, most of the MU doctors I saw — with the exception of infectious disease — were caring, took their time, and were careful in their tests. They just couldn't connect the dots.) At the urging of my pharmacist, I went to Dr. Horner in Jefferson City. He took a complete family history of diseases and listened carefully to all my symptoms and the battery of tests I had already been through. Never once was I made to feel like I was crazy, which was not always the case (again, MU infectious disease). The first visit was about three hours with him. He had a pretty good clue of what was going on by the time we left, and the blood work confirmed that and ruled out some less unusual diseases it might have been. These were all blood tests that could have been run in any office but weren't. He also did a few blood tests that are rare in the US but are common in Europe. With that, we had a solid picture of what was going on. He's been excellent to continue to follow my case and found one more issue in the process. Now, with minimal but mandatory treatment, I'm a good 95% of where I should be. Heck, he even found out why I couldn't lose weight! Dr. Horner and his careful attention to the whole body gave me back a life worth having. I now have more energy than I did even 10 years ago. I should also note that his staff are incredibly kind and knowledgeable too. They had my laughing while they drew my blood, even though I hate having that done. Great doctor, great staff, great care, and even better results.

One of the most intelligent people I've met in his field (my nursing career spanned 36 years including 18 years coordinating clinical drug trials). Dr. Horner loves kids although he may have a low tolerance to adults not following directions. When it comes to disease process, prefers to treat the cause not just the symptoms, and looks at the whole picture not just the obvious. Is a bull dog that does not give up until the cause is found. Had the privilege to work along side him in research for a couple of years. Was a educational experience and never boring :-)

After suffering for over 15 years and continually going down hill with my health I went to see Dr Horner at the urging of my brother in law who Dr Horner had saved with a diagnosis of lung cancer his normal Dr missed. Within the first visit Dr Horner had an idea of what my problems were and he confirmed it with blood tests. I'm not 100% better but I'm sure a lot better than when I first went to see him! He identified several serious illnesses that no other dr had even suspected. He does spend time with you and is extremely intelligent and tries to educate his patients for them to be able to be a partner in their treatment & recovery. Love him and his staff.

We visited Dr. Horner’s office to help diagnose a suspected allergy for our 9 year old son. Without asking any questions about his history or the exact nature of the visit his staff immediately performed a scratch test on my son. Within a few minutes the nurse gave us 8 foods that Shepherd could no longer have. Some of these included wheat, oats, corn, and soy. Shepherd had reactions at home to peanuts but not any other food. When Dr. Horner entered the exam room we had some questions about how allergies worked and the possibility of there being different levels of allergies to these foods. He was immediately very defensive and told us that if we did not keep him away from all 8 foods our son could go into anaphylactic shock and die. We kept trying to ask him questions to understand his diagnose and he just kept shutting us down. He would not answer the question and just kept warning us that our son could die if he ate any of these foods. His tone was very arrogant, combative, and uncaring. We asked for an epi-pen prescription and left in the middle of the visit. He would not answer our questions and was upsetting our son. Our 9 year old son, who is a very tough little guy, left the office crying worried about his life. Yes, the doctor kept warning us he would die right in front of him. We immediately made an appointment with another allergist. She was very caring, listened to his medical history and discovered a probable explanation for why he developed allergies so late in his childhood. She had a blood test ran, and he was not allergic to 7 of the 8 foods Dr. Horner said he was. She also found three other foods he was allergic to that Dr. Horner did not diagnose. Due to his arrogance Dr. Horner misdiagnosed my son and provided substandard care.
