Must stop shop for a bratwurst/sausage. They have a happy our $1 off an hour before closing. They have a variety of sausages and beers. The indoor seating is limited, but dine in options are possible. The mustard is homemade and you can purchase a tub to go. They also have a deli side of the establishment that looked great and lots of European chocolates and treats. We will be back!!!
Delicious. Had the classic Reuben and an apple Square for dessert. Crispy rye bread and Sauer kraut were the stars of the show. Will be back.Food: 5/5
I was excited to visit here because my German raised friend stated this was one of her favorite German type delis in Portland, OR. There were lots of sausages, meats, breads, wines, and market goods to choose from. I especially enjoyed the candy aisle! The deli-store was very tidy. We had lunch there as well. The Ruben sandwich had ample meat, saurkraut, and cheese, but it was just a tad bland. My friend told me the sausage lunches are the best. Great customer service in all aspects. I'm looking forward to revisiting!
I had high hopes for this European Deli, especially given its claim to offer authentic German food, but my experience was a huge letdown. The atmosphere felt more like a generic sandwich shop than a traditional German deli. The menu was limited, lacking variety, and several classic German items were missing. The food itself was the biggest disappointment. The bratwurst was dry and overcooked, served on a stale bun. The sauerkraut was bland, and the potato salad was overly mayonnaise-heavy with no real flavor. For the prices they charge, I expected much higher quality. To make matters worse, the service was inattentive and slow, even though the deli wasn’t busy. I asked for recommendations, and the staff seemed disinterested in helping. Overall, the food and experience were far from authentic or enjoyable. If you’re looking for real German cuisine, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.
Thought it was pretty pricey when I saw the menu, but I do appreciate the fact that they make everything in house, so it is what it is. I decided on the Pastrami Reuben. As you can see in the picture, it is a very proper looking sandwich. My only gripe was, the bread was extremely toasted. The top of my mouth did not appreciate it whatsoever. It was rough. But the meat and the sauce, absolutely delicious. If I got it again, I would definitely just ask for either lightly toasted, or not toasted at all. Other than that, I think they do a solid job.
Been there three times, every time I come back to Portland. Had a Reuben sandwich, delicious on dark bread. Bought some brats, cheese, rolls for the BBQ. Beef jerky for the trip home. All the meats are made on site, smoked on site too. Breads imported from Germany. Everything was good, well worth the side trip if it's not on your way somewhere else. I'll be back on my next visit.
Probably the best German/pan European grocery store in the Portland metro area. They have a decent selection of European cold cuts and cheeses . Also a fairly extensive selection of sweets and chocolate. Prepared foods and take away foods are also available. There is a small seating area with a half a dozen or so tables . A limited selection of baked goods are also for sale. Prices are somewhat higher than local goods but the quality is so much better. Parking is usually OK but can be challenging sometimes on a Saturday or around lunch. No handicap parking in front of store. Limited handicap accessibility in the store because of narrow aisles which can be crowded at certain times, Final take---Go if you enjoy quality foods with a European flair.
Love love love a piece of Germany in portland. Excellent quality and selection of sausages, several varieties of freshly smoked ham and many other authentic German treats . Highly recommend
Small but fun place to find all sorts of food. Chocolate, cheese, mustards and best of all the deli counter. Paprika salami, nurnberger sausage and Hungarian brats are my favorites so far.Food: 5/5
Ordered reuben sandwich, it was very delicious. and bought beer sausages, all beef sausages, hot Hungarians, and mild italian sausages. Cooked some of them with sauerkraut, some of them cooked on the grill. All were good!!
