About Embracing the Past to Inspire the Future. This interactive museum presents the compelling and touching story of immigrants who came to find a better life in the mill towns along the Blackstone River. Mission The Museum of Work and Culture Preservation Foundation, founded in 2007, exists for the purpose of obtaining private and public support to perpetuate the efforts of the Museum of Work and Culture, a division of the Rhode Island Historical Society, and to educate and inspire the public on the history of the Blackstone Valley, and the contribution of workers of the late 19th century and early 20th century.
