About MOOREFIELD VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT "SECOND TO NONE" Story The Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company 46 was founded on March 17, 1934 to protect the town of Moorefield, West Virginia and its surrounding area. This small department began operations with a horse drawn "hose wagon" and later a 1934 Seagrave Suburbanite pumper, which the department still owns today. The company today has 48 active members under the direction of Chief Business Functions are under the direction of President Harry Shockey. Company 46 runs an average of 200 calls per year. No EMS calls are ran by the department, however the fighting 46 is sometimes dispatched on various types of automatic EMS calls and others as needed. The company has seen a steady increase of calls for the area. Contributing to this increase is the population growth in the states 3rd fastest growing county. Company 46 is responsible for the protection for the protection of the western most portion of Hardy County, covering an area of approx. 240 square miles, Including 12 miles of U.S Rt 48 (WV Corridor H). Company 46 is dispatched by Hardy County 911 on a frequency of 464.950mhz The department owns and operates several apparatus including: Attack 46: 1999 Ford/Pierce 4x4 Attack Pumper Engine/Rescue 46: 2004 Pierce Pumper with rescue equipment Engine 46-1: 1977 Ford/Pierce Pumper (Brush Fire) Engine 46-2: 1985 Ford/Pierce Pumper Tanker 46: 1992 Mack/ 4Guys Water Tanker 2100 gal. Squad 46: 1993 Mack/Marion Heavy Rescue with Air Cascade Brush 46: 2005 Ford F350 With 250gal water/ 10gal foam/ Utility 46 2007 Chevy Suburban
