About (503)769-1406 Story Our mission is to discover, gather and interpret historical materials illustrating the history of the Santiam Canyon, its residents, their activities and the events in their lives. We are dedicated to the preservation and conservation of such materials while making them available for study by researchers, students and the public. We are a not for profit corporation and depend solely on the kindness of folks like you. All of our members volunteer their time and talent to preserve the artifacts and make the stories they tell available to all. Early in 2014, the City of Stayton requested we vacate the building we had occupied for many years. The Women's club building (and later the public library) was in dire need of renovation and preservation. We are glad to say the building has been preserved and is now being used as Stayton's new municipal courthouse. All of our beloved artifacts are currently in storage while we seek a permanent home. Our volunteers continue to index and document our collection. There is always room for more volunteers. If you are interested just contact us. Interested in your family history? We are available to assist you in your genealogy research. We love to share what we have found. We can arrange exhibits for your office or classroom - just contact us ! Please help us in the important work of telling our story; an individual can join for just $10 a year, or a business can show their support for this amazing community resource for just $25 a year. Larger donations make larger impacts. Our artifacts tell the story of this community and how it has grown and prospered from the very beginning. We need your help to tell the stories - remember: It's not HIStory, it's OUR story. Mission The Santiam Historical Society was founded in 1984 by a group of dedicated volunteers working together to preserve our shared history. We work with other organizations in the Santiam Canyon to tell the stories of our fore-bearers who settled in this area and made it the place it is today. Products Postcards, Memory jars, Bumper stickers, Notebooks, Blank cards and hand painted plates with a map of the area.
