About Hardwood furnishings, upholstery and bedding handmade and custom-made by the skilled Amish and Mennonite craftsmen of Ohio and Pennsylvania. Story Dutch Boy Furniture is a very unique store because of the outstanding quality and craftsmanship found in SOLID WOOD with no veneers. Dutch Boy Furniture was established in 2001 by Vernon Gingerich, who continues own and manage the business. As a boy, "Pennsylvania Dutch" was the first language the owner and his family learned, and his family still shares this dialect as a second language. These distinctives would also hold for the Amish and Mennonite craftsmen who design and build the furniture sold at "Dutch Boy;" hence the name. We find fulfillment in offering you the finest quality solid wood furniture available today, hand-made by Amish and Mennonite craftsmen in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The timber is selected from North American hardwoods, milled to specification, kiln-dried (to cure the wood for the fabrication process and also reduce the future effects of humidity), and handcrafted with machinery in various family-operated woodworking shops. Each piece is sanded and stained to the color of your choice, and hand-finished to a satin-smooth appearance. In both the manufacturing and finishing, the artisans' aim is to bring forth the character of the wood. The beauty of hardwood is an expression of nature. It is not engineered, nor is it synthetic. Its beauty is not only skin deep. Just as every tree in nature is unique, every product we carry is distinctive--one of a kind.
