About Founded in 1917, Stepney Fire Department is the longest serving volunteer fire company within the Town of Monroe, Connecticut. Story The Stepney Volunteer Fire Company is one of three fire companies in the Town of Monroe, located about 10 miles north of Bridgeport, CT. Our response area consists of 26 square miles and a population of over 20,000. We operate from 2 stations using three engines, a truck, a heavy rescue, a utility and a chief's vehicle. Currently we are the only Ladder Company in the Town of Monroe. The fire company's primary coverage area includes the following sections of Monroe: Stepney, Stevenson and Monroe Center. We also provide coverage to the Towns of Trumbull, Easton, Newtown and Shelton on a mutual aide basis. The Stepney Vol. Fire Company is dedicated to protecting the lives and property of the residents of the Town of Monroe and will continue to do so for many years to come.
