About:
About The Barnes County Historical Society seeks to preserve and share the history of Barnes County, ND, and the surrounding area. To this end, the society operates a museum of local history which contains relevant temporary exhibits. Story The Barnes County Historical Society was founded in 1930 on the third floor of the Barnes County Courthouse by several organizations, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Pioneer Club, the GAR and WRC. It was moved from that location in 1990 and again relocated to its present address of 315 Central Avenue N in 1997. Our museum is open Monday-Saturday 10:00-4:00PM year round. It is a very active organization featuring an annual monthly lecture series in conjunction with Valley City State University now in its 16th season, frequently changing local exhibits as well as traveling exhibits. We have genealogical resources available and are willing to help with research. We have many community partners and are proud to be active in our county and state.
