Story Maxwell's House of Books opened in 2003 in La Mesa, California's downtown village. The store is owned and run by Craig Maxwell, the grandson of Vernon Wahrenbrock, who founded Wahrenbrock's Book House in 1935, San Diego's oldest and largest bookstore and an authentic city landmark.
