Story The Indiana Virtual Academy (IndVA), formerly the Ripley County Learning Network (RCLN), is an initiative of the Ripley County Community Foundation enabled through a Community Alliances to Promote Education (CAPE) grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. The IndVA was established to achieve a “virtual consolidation” of Ripley County’s four school corporations as well as the Career Center in the county. As a result of the success of the RCLN which was founded in 2002, the name was changed in 2005 to the Indiana Virtual Academy in 2005 opening the “virtual doors” to all Indiana high schools and students. In 2008 the IndVA was certified by the Indiana State Board of Education as an Interlocal Cooperative. This allows Indiana public high schools to become members of the IndVA. Mission The IndVA will deliver educational opportunities through technology to: -Share resourses across the four school corporations in Ripley County and through the other ninety-one counties. -Expand access to more diverse curriculum and post-secondary educational opportunites. -Increase Ripley County educators'access to professional development through online courses. Products The IndVA offers supplemental online high school courses and has assisted over 3900 students in 234 middle/high schools throughout the State of Indiana attain high school credits. These students took courses to make up credits, take something that wasn’t offered in their school, to resolve schedule conflicts etc. The IndVA also offers non-credit continuing education courses through a partnership with Ed2go. Some of these courses can also be taken by Indiana Teachers for Certification Renewal Units (CRU’s).
