About The Oakland Public Library is a cultural center facilitating timely access to information, ideas and forms of creative expression. Mission The mission of the Oakland Public Library is to provide library resources and services to meet the evolving educational, cultural, recreational and informational needs of the community and to encourage lifelong learning. The Library will accomplish this mission effectively by providing excellence in its staff, facilities, collections, technology and programs and by participating in cooperative networks, and community and business partnerships. The Library is a dynamic, ever-changing resource center responding to the needs of the public it serves. The Library upholds the principles of intellectual freedom.
