About Depicting the history and life in Calico Rock and the surrounding area in the Ozarks, from early history to 1963 Story The Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center is operated by the Calico Rock Museum Foundation. We provide visitor center services through a contract with the city of Calico Rock, Arkansas. Gwen Murphy Art Gallery: Our works include paintings, sculpture, pottery, utilitarian and everyday art, baskets, vessels, and other pieces. Our collection is housed throughout the museum exhibits, Community Garden, and the Gwen Murphy Art Gallery. Our focus is primarily on American folk art, with particular emphasis on Ozarks culture and heritage. An Historic Museum: The museum's historic collection ranges from pre-history to 1967. The collection includes artifacts that are historically and culturally significant to Calico Rock and the surrounding region. The Ozarks culture is believed to have been born in and around Calico Rock, Arkansas and our museum outlines the historical growth of this culture and our region. Our museum pays particular attention to people's everyday live Mission We preserve, display, and interpret works of art and historical pieces that build a bridge of culture and understanding.
