About An expanding and developing history museum and archive incorporating the North Platte Valley Historical Association/Museum and the Farm And Ranch Museum. Story Our museum exhibits focus on the archaeology of Native American and Westward Expansion sites (Oregon Trail, Mormon Trail), the lives of pioneering settlers, the establishment of irrigation systems, the development of rural communities, the diversity of culture in the High Plains, and the innovative technologies and cultural practices of raising animals and crops – including cattle, sheep, potatoes, sugarbeets, beans, and wheat – in a semiarid environment. Mission The Legacy of the Plains mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of settlement and agriculture of the region for present and future generations. Products Our gift shop stock includes books, old-fashioned toys, and country decor. Proceeds from the gift shop supports our nonprofit museum.
