About The BEST sandwiches anywhere in DC. Period. Story Mae and Irving Wagner (Bub and Pop) were born and raised in South Philadelphia. As young teenagers they fell in love at first sight and married in their early 20’s. Bub and Pop loved delicious home style food, especially the delicacies of the 9th Street Italian Market. Upon returning from WWII with 2 Medals of Valor and a Bronze Star, Bub convinced Pop they should open a place to call their own. They bought a grocery store in West Philadelphia where they served an Italian Hoagie and a Braised Beef Brisket Sandwich. These two sandwiches are the inspiration for our menu. Almost 70 years later their grandson Jonathan has reinvented these old school classics for future generations to enjoy.
