About This is the official page for the City of Herrin, IL's Fire Department. Story The Herrin Fire Department consists of a Full-time Fire Chief, three full-time Captains, nine full-time Firefighters and six paid-on-call Firefighters. The full-time Captains & Firefighters belong to the International Association of Firefighters Union and are Local 3251. There are three shifts that work 24 hours on and 48 hours off. There is a Captain and three Firefighters assigned to each shift. The HFD is an ISO Class 3 department beginning February 1, 2018. Mission The City of Herrin Fire Department mission is to promote fire safety, protect property and preserve life.
