About The Christian Church in Philadelphia is a congregation of believers who have confessed with our mouths the Lord Jesus and have believed in our hearts [spirits] that God has raised Him [Jesus] from the dead. Story The Christian Church in Philadelphia is a congregation of believers who have confessed with our mouths the Lord Jesus and have believed in our hearts [spirits] that God has raised Him [Jesus] from the dead. Therefore, with our hearts [spirits] we have believed unto righteousness and with our mouths have confessed unto salvation. Thus, we have been saved! “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation” (Romans 10:9-10, New American Standard Bible). We also have been baptized into the body of Christ “by one Spirit” and therefore are of the body of Christ, and members individually (I Corinthians 12:13, 27, New American Standard Bible). Finally, most of us have been, and the others of us will be, baptized in water to have “...the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him” (I Peter 3:18-22, New American Standard Bible). Moreover, we are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ “...for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.... For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith.” (See Romans 1:16-17, New American Standard Bible.) Mission Our mission is to do the work of Jesus! What is and what was the work of Jesus! In the Gospel according to Matthew, “Jesus was going about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people” (Matthew 4:23, NASB). Again, in Matthew 9:35, NASB, “Jesus was going about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.” Thus, by doing what Jesus did people are saved in accordance with Romans 10:9-10 and baptized in water in accordance with I Peter 3:18-22. Included in our mission is helping equip the saints for the work of ministry or service! (See Ephesians 4:4-17, especially verses 11 and 12.) The Holy Spirit through the apostle Paul has told us to do this! So then, this is our Mission. Finally, included in our mission is to practice pure and undefiled religion, which means to visit orphans and widows in their distress and to keep ourselves unstained by or from the world! (See James 1:27 with I John 15-17, NASB.)
