About For more information, please contact our office at 563-557-7010. Story The Carr, Ryder & Adams Company (CARADCO) Main Plant Building is a former millwork factory, built in six sections between 1880 and 1906, located in what was the nation's largest window and door manufacturing district. A staircase in the White House was manufactured at CARADCO! Occupying an entire city block, CARADCO is central to Dubuque’s Downtown and Main Street areas, and adjacent to our working class neighborhoods and our fabulous Port of Dubuque. Preserving CARADCO and surrounding buildings is critical to retaining the district’s unique character and maintaining a link to Dubuque’s millwork industrial past. Arts initiatives and non-profits will be infused throughout the entire district, adding to the vibrancy and building of human capital that will be part of Phase I of the Millwork Community Campus. 72 loft style one- and two-bedroom apartments will be located on the second and third floors. Unique features will include community space, a fitness room, and decks overlooking a common courtyard, which will provide green space and outdoor seating. CARADCO will form part of the Historic Millwork District’s “quad” area, which is comprised of the Alamo, Novelty Iron Works, and Voices buildings. In the future, the plan for this area is to serve as host to a wide variety of community events. CARADCO and its unique features will stand as an example of our commitment to the City of Dubuque’s Sustainable Initiatives.
