About The Coalition, Inc. is a non-profit community coalition. Story As part of The Coalition's grant funding, our focus is centered on creating environmental changes in our community rather than individual changes in each community member. With this broader focus we can make lasting changes that will affect the larger population as well as future generations. Mission The Coalition will eliminate the use of harmful substances by influencing public policy, laws, attitudes and behaviors to foster healthy life-long choices. Products Working together has achieved extraordinary outcomes. Overall in the past 15 years, the middle and high school drug surveys show a steadily decreasing trend in underage drinking from a reported 36.8% in 1994, 25% in 2007 and 20.1% in 2011. In 1998 marijuana use in Angelina County spiked at 15.8%. Since that time, it has been decreasing, but spiked again in 2011 at a much lower level of only 7%. Meth and cocaine use are reported at statistically insignificant numbers, meaning they are, for the most part, irrelevant in the lives of Angelina County youth age 18 and below. The Lufkin Smoke-Free Parks Ordinance was adopted in April 2008.
