About Welcome to the Official Facebook home of the Ossining Volunteer Fire Department. Located in Westchester County in the Lower Hudson Valley. Story Organized in 1812, The Ossining Fire Department is rich in Tradition, Pride, & Honor. Our all Volunteer Firefighting force comprised of over 470 members, are one of if not the largest in New York State. The department provides Fire & Rescue Services to our district covering primarily the Village of Ossining & areas of the Town of Ossining. 9 Companies comprise our department staffing 6 Engines, 2 Aerial Devices, a Heavy Rescue, 5 utility vehicles including a Rehab/Command Unit, Fast utility, & a Spill response trailer. We also have a Venturing Crew Program within our department to introduce the young citizens of our community into the world and commitment of Volunteer Firefighting. These member are from the ages of 14-18 and must have completed Middle School Grades. Our department also provides FAS (firefighter assist & search) Team, or RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) services to our surrounding communities. This is a highly trained and specialized trained team of firefighters specializing in the removal & rescuing of down firefighters. These services are reciprocated from department to department utilizing each others team at each others incidents. Our primary FAS Team for our District is from the Croton-on-Hudson FD. When a Working Fire is confirmed a series of events happens bringing additional resources into action. We have 3 chiefs in the OFD, they are elected by the general membership of the department. Each term length is 2 years, these elections take place every 2 years in December. The current chiefs of the OFD are as follows Chief Engineer: Matthew Scarduzio 1st Asst.
