Hardin played football for the University of Missouri, including an appearance at the Cotton Bowl (1946). He is a former state representative (5 terms), and senator (8 years). Hardin was a supporter of a bill that became known as the Dinger-Dickey-Cox bill, which enabled the building of welcome canters along the interstates and highways that are along the border of the state. He was also a creator of the Missouri Tourism Commission. Zel Fischer, a current Judge on the Missouri Supreme Court is a 1981 graduate of Rock Port High School.
