About Seattle's smallest & weirdest movie theater. Non-profit & 100% volunteer-operated. Story The Grand Illusion Cinema is Seattle's only 100% volunteer non-profit cinema. We are dedicated to preserving the cinematic experience in all forms, especially the exhibition of 16mm & 35mm film whenever possible. Our location has operated as a movie theater uninterrupted since 1968, when Randy Findley converted a dentist’s office into a cinema and created the city’s first arthouse.
