About:
About Learn about the California Academy of Sciences youth programs for middle school and high school age youth in the Bay Area. Story Careers in Science The Careers in Science Intern Program offers a year-round science education and youth development internship with three major components: learning science, teaching science to others, and conducting scientific research. Interns learn about the findings and processes of science and the natural world through hands-on lectures, field science experiences, and peer and professional mentor-ships. This multi-year paid internship serves San Francisco youth typically under-represented in the sciences. For more information contact: Neal Ramus at nramus@calacademy.org Digital Learning Program Digital Learning empowers teens to use technology to tell science stories to the public using a variety of digital tools, from mobile games to astronomy dome shows to social media campaigns. For information on current Digital Learning youth programs , contact Christine Wilkinson at cwilkinson@calacademy.org. Teen Advocates for Science Communication (TASC Force) Youth volunteers in the Teen Advocates of Science Communication program engage with the Academy's mission of exploring, explaining, and protecting the natural world through the creation of innovative public programs. Youth work with the Academy professionals to create experiences for museum visitors that communicate science in a fun and exciting way such as flash mobs, collections based fashion shows, or pop up experiences. For more information contact: Justin Canty at JCanty@calacademy.org Student Science Fellows The Student Science Fellows program pairs highly motivated youth with Academy researcher scientists to conduct authentic research and disseminate the results of their work. Youth in this program have already shown a serious commitment to science and work directly with Academy researchers on a co-created research project. For more information contact: Roberta Brett rbrett@calacademy.org Science Action Clubs The Science Action Club Program ignites the spark for science in middle school youth and their after school Activity Leaders. The Academy provides after school programs with blended professional development, science-themed activity modules, and remote support for youth to explore science content and participate in authentic science experiences. Science Action Clubs are offered through after school programs in eight San Francisco Unified School District's Middle Schools.
