About St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church of the Diocese of Austin is located in Pflugerville between a rock (Round Rock) and a weird place (Austin). Story Our History: September 11, 1932 A mission is established in Pflugerville and placed under the protection of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. The first church building at Wilbarger & Railroad Street near downtown is dedicated. From Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in Austin and Our Lady of Guadalupe in Taylor, the Oblate Fathers of Mary Immaculate provided Mass and Sacraments. October 21, 1979 Dedication of the new church building on North Pflugerville Loop with 8 acres of land. September 1982 The fiftieth anniversary of the Mission is celebrated. June 11, 1984 St. Elizabeth is established as an independent parish. Father Pete McCabe is appointed as the first resident pastor. July 5, 1984 Parish rectory is established on 8th Street in Pflugerville. August 18, 1985 Dedication of Parish Activity Center ("The Hall"). July 17, 1987 Father Tom Frank is assigned as second resident pastor. November 17, 1989 On this day, two statues of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary were unveiled, blessed, and installed. One is made of hand-carved wood, painted on commision by an artist in Rome. The other is a plaster statue donated by St Elizabeth in Houston. Fall 1991 A new sign made of rock marks the parish land. April 1992 Three acres of land are purchased between the church and the middle school. November 15, 1992 Celebration of the 60th anniversary of Saint Elizabeth. May 19, 1996 Groundbreaking for new sanctuary and religious education building. Summer 1997 Associate pastor Father Kevin Rai is assigned. September 9, 1997 Dedication of the new Sanctuary and Education building by Bishop John McCarthy. July 1, 2002 Father George Joseph is assigned as third resident pastor. December 2003 Father Leonard Onwumere is assigned as associate pastor. August 1, 2005 Father Albert Ruiz becomes the new pastor of St. Elizabeth. February 2007 Deacon Barry Ryan is ordained Deacon and assigned to St Elizabeth. July 7, 2007 Father James Misko is assigned as Associate Pastor. July 15, 2009 Father Pedro Garcia-Ramirez is named Pastor. Born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, Fr. Pedro moved to Austin in his teenage years where he and his family were members of Cristo Rey church. After working as a painter with his father as well as at the Butter Crust Bakery, Fr. Pedro entered seminary. He studied at the college seminary in Santa Fe, New Mexico and at Assumption Seminary in San Antonio. He has served as a priest at St. Louis Austin, Our Lady of Guadalupe Taylor, St. Isidore Arteaga, Mexico, St. Mary's Somerville, and St. Mary's in Wimberly. July 1, 2010 Father Steve Sauser is assigned as Associate Pastor July 1, 2012 Father John Paul Hudson is assigned as Associate Pastor July 1, 2014 Father Craig Deyoung is assigned as Associate Pastor October 18, 2014 Construction of a new Religious Education Center begins August 30, 2015 Dedication of the new Religious Education Center Mission Saint Elizabeth of Hungary in Pflugerville, Texas, in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church, God's kingdom on earth, seeks closeness with God who spiritually nourishes us with the sacraments found in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
