Easy access to I-40 gets you to many attractions, including the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Park (20 minutes). Walk around the rim of Meteor Crater, less than an hour west. Take a day trip to Monument Valley (2.5+ hours), the Grand Canyon (2.5 hours), Canyon de Chelly (1.5+ hours) or Fort Apache (1.5 hours). In Holbrook, check out the Historic Route 66 memorabilia or stop at the Hubbell Trading Post (a National Historic Site) on the Navajo Reservation. Drive through town on the original Route 66 (don't miss the Wigwam Motel sign) and shop for silver and turquoise jewelry.
