About UL Lafayette is a national research university, the largest institution in the UL System, and home of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. Story The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is the second largest university in the state and is the largest of the nine institutions that comprise the University of Louisiana System. It also was rated the most affordable in the state according to the U.S. Department of Education. More than 18,200 students attend. The institution awards bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. Curricula are diverse with offerings from the humanities to scientific research. It’s a national leader in areas like computer science, biology and nursing. UL Lafayette has a mission to educate undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of arts, sciences and professional programs and to conduct research in these fields.
