It is a speciality of not only saving teeth, but diagnosing oral and facial pain, which may be tooth related or not. Accredited universities offer two-year programs to receive an advanced specialty license to practice Endodontics after graduating from dental school. The specialist's practice encompasses root canal therapy, traumatic injuries to teeth (children and adults), facial pain that may not be tooth related, root canal surgery, repairing a failing root canal, saving a tooth from having a root canal, tooth bleaching, and emergency treatment for tooth pain. Dr. Brian Trava was raised locally, graduated Lycoming College in 1984, and graduated dental school from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in 1988. He was accepted and finished his two-year post graduate work in Endodontics from UMDNJ in 1990. Dr. Trava started the Hawthorne practice in 1990 and the Ho-Ho-Kus practice in 1993. Dr. Trava expanded his practice to locations in Oradell in 2009 and Wyckoff in 2010. Dr. Trava's team of doctors includes Dr. Sujean Oh, who joined the practice in 1999, Dr. Alison Petix, who joined the practice in 2001, Dr. Christopher Bauer, who joined the practice in 2008, and Dr. Seung Shon, who recently joined the practice in 2011.
