About Petersburg Healthy Start /Loving Steps is a home visitation program working to help reduce the infant mortality rate in the city of Petersburg. Story Petersburg Healthy Start /Loving Steps, which is part of the Crater Health District, is a home visitation program working to help reduce the infant mortality rate in the city of Petersburg. We work with women, ages 20 to 40, while they are pregnant and after they have their child. We also work with infants and toddlers up to age 2. The infant mortality rate in Petersburgh is higher than in most other parts of Virginia especially among African American women. Our goal is to reduce that rate and make sure more babies are born healthy!
