About The Box Elder Family Support Center is located at 276 N. 200 E. Brigham City, Utah. Our mission is “Strengthening Families Now and For the Future.” Story The Box Elder Family Support Center is located at 276 N. 200 E. Brigham City, Utah. Our mission is “Strengthening Families Now and For the Future.” Our purpose is to prevent the occurrence and/ or reoccurrence of child abuse and family conflict. We have been in existence since February 1995 and have provided Crisis/ Respite Nursery and Parent Advocate Programs since opening. We added the Family Therapy Program in 1997. Our center is a member of the Utah Family Support Center Association. Services are available to families from all cultures, religions, races, and income levels. Our core services, to prevent family conflict and child abuse, are described below. Crisis/Respite/Shelter Nursery: The Crisis/ Respite Nursery is available free of charge to all care givers and their children, birth through eleven years of age, in Box Elder County. The nursery is available to families that have an emergency or crisis, for parents who need a “time-out”, and for families that are participating in other services at the facility, such as parenting classes or therapy. The nursery is available 24 hours per day, seven days a week and is licensed by Department of Human Services. We also provide 70 calendar days of shelter yearly to DCFS. Parent Education Services: 1) The Parent Advocate Program provides home visiting services, and referral/resource information to families in Box Elder County. The home visiting services assist parents with any issue that may be causing them to have difficulties in providing a nurturing atmosphere for their children - parenting education, financial assistance, marital issues, homemaking skills, nutrition education, etc. 2) Parent Education Classes are offered on an ongoing basis. Our parent education curriculums include The Nurturing Program by Dr. Stephen J. Bavolek, the Becoming a Love and Logic Parent program by Jim Fay and Charles Fay, Ph. D, and the Smart Steps program (designed for stepfamilies) by Francesca Adler-Baeder, PhD., CFLE. Free child care is available in the Kids Care Center during all class times. 3) American Red Cross Babysitting Class is offered for youth over 11 years of age. This class provides youth with the tools needed to safely provided childcare in our community and as a precursor to nurturing parenting skills in the future. Therapy Services: Our Family Therapy Program offers parents support either in their home or at the center to increase their ability to care for their children. This service is free to those who have children under the age of 18 and don’t have Medicaid or private insurance. Child care is available during sessions at the Center. Our therapist also provides consultations to our Kids Care Center Staff and our Parent Advocate Staff. Other Services Offered: Our center has a wonderful lending library that is available to any resident of Box Elder County. We have books, videos, and cassette tapes on topics involving family dynamics. We also offer a Speaker’s Bureau to any community organization in the county seeking knowledge about our center or parenting issues.
