About:
About This is your mom's cooking... only better. Story When Ana and George Sapolich opened a mill-gate bar at 200 Broad Street in 1973, they served nothing more than sandwiches and hamburgers to their coal-mining and mill-working customers. Now, over 35 years (and a flood) later, Colette and David Sapolich continue the tradition of serving the Johnstown community with an ever-expanding, eclectic menu at The Phoenix Tavern. Everything in The Phoenix Tavern has the personal touch of the Sapolich family and the seal of approval from lifetime customers. Our family's combined experience of over 100 years in the kitchen (as well as the occasional customer's inventive late-night request) is responsible for our delectable tavern fare. It is not unusual to find three generations of Sapoliches working in the kitchen to create and cook the menu items while three generations of customers enjoy the perfected dishes in the dining room. Ana, David, and Colette and the grandkids each contribute to the selection of fresh salads, novel sandwiches, quirky wings, delightful desserts, and secret-recipe soups. Whether you have a penchant for pastries or a weakness for wings, The Phoenix Tavern has something on the menu to satisfy your cravings. It all makes for quite a lot of food, quite a lot of family, and quite a lot of satisfied taste buds.
