About A compelling and authentic presentation of slavery on a Louisiana sugar plantation. Guided tours offered hourly. Paid admission required. Story The Whitney Plantation is located on the historic River Road, less than an hour from New Orleans. Whitney Plantation is the only plantation museum in Louisiana with a focus on slavery. Through the use of restored buildings, museum exhibits, memorial artwork and hundreds of first-person slave narratives from the Federal Writers’ Project, visitors are offered a unique perspective on the lives of Louisiana’s enslaved people. Guided tours are offered M, W, Th, F, Sa, Sun at 10:00am, 11:00am, 12noon, 1:00pm, 2:00pm and 3:00pm. Closed Tuesdays. Adult tickets $22, discounted rate of $15 for students (with id), seniors (over 65), groups, military and residents of St. John the Baptist and St. James Parishes. Free for children under 12.
