About Founded over 120 years ago, Beth Hamedrash Hagodol - Beth Jacob Congregation is Downtown Pittsburgh's only synagogue. Come to our Shabbat services! Story Beth Jacob Congregation started in the Hill District when it was a large thriving Jewish community. Today the shul is the only congregation in the downtown vicinity and offers weekday Shacharit (morning) and Mincha (afternoon) services, as well as morning Shabbat and Sunday services. The building, situated on the edge of Uptown and Downtown, is also used as a gathering space for the community, with its upstairs social hall available for a wide range of uses including ritual events such as Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremonies, community meetings and kosher meals. The building houses a full kosher kitchen and offers accessible parking in its private lot. Rabbi Stanley J Savage leads the congregation.
