About Bear Creek Elementary School is a high achieving school offering a variety of programs, including the elementary stage of the District's Dual Immersion Program, in Bend, Oregon. Mission Message From the Principal: Hello Bear Creek Families, we are so excited to start the 2013-2014 school year with your student. This is going to be a fabulous year full of learning, new experiences, and great relationships. Whether your student is returning or new to Bear Creek, we spend time building our school community. Every student needs to feel safe and have a strong sense of belonging. Our staff works together to teach and reinforce expectations and rules using P ositive B ehavior S ystems. We are a PBS school. We have a team of teachers who meet frequently as curriculum leaders to organize and analyze our progress toward our schoolwide goals, academic and behavior goals go hand in hand with our mission to ensure that each child achieves to their fullest potential. We have three simple rules that are applied throughout the school by all staff: Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Kind You will see signs posted in all common areas and examples of expectations specific to those areas are also outlined. As part of our PBS process, teachers and other staff members use evidence-based practices to increase student learning and decrease classroom disruptions. To keep students thinking about rules in a positive manner, we do the following when teaching academics and behavior: Constantly teach and refer to our school-wide expectations. Provide students with more praise than correction. Actively engage everyone in the class during instruction. Use pre-correcting, prompting, and redirecting as we teach. Look for the positive first and provide positive, immediate, frequent, and explicit feedback. We have systems in place for all students to be recognized for following rules and being well behaved. All students have the opportunity to receive Bear Hugs for meeting goals, doing something positive, and demonstrating good character. The Principal and Students Service Coordinator announce those awards weekly at lunchtime. Bear Creek is a school that takes community seriously. We work hard to keep everyone informed and knowledgeable about our practices and hope to include you in all aspects of your child's experience.
