About Frankfort is the Capital City of Kentucky. The City Manager's Office manages this page is to share pertinent information with citizens and tourists. Story Frankfort, Kentucky was designated as a a town by the Virginia State Legislator in 1786. When Kentucky statehood followed in 1792, Frankfort had the privilege of becoming the capital of the new state. The City of Frankfort currently has a population of approximately 27,000.
