About A Hand Up... Not A Hand Out Mission Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and disadvantages through the Power of Work. Products JOB CONNECTION CENTER An employment resource center open to the general public at no cost. No appointment or referral is required. Free resources such as a computer lab & employment consultants are available to help build resumes, conduct mock interviews, conduct online job searches and submit online applications. GED test prep resources are also available. CONTRACT SERVICES- Janitorial & Security Local agencies can contract professional janitorial and CLEET-certified security services to local agencies, while giving persons with disabilities and other disadvantages the opportunity to work. Also available are a variety of work assignments for mandated community service. VOCATIONAL TRAINING Paid, on-going Job Coaching support to participants with disabilities. Participants learn vocational skills in a work environment that will prepare them for competitive employment.Training varies from sheltered workshops to retail work, janitorial work, landscaping work and light maintenance work. WORK ADJUSTMENT TRAINING A program for high school juniors and seniors with disabilities, who will be transitioning to the world of work after high school. They participate in job sampling and job shadowing activities. They practice interview skills, resume writing, and job application completion. GOODGUIDES A youth mentoring program that serves at risk youth ages 12-17. GoodGuides pairs youth with a mentor either as part of a group or one-on-one. Mentees receive no less than 4 hours per month of mentoring and are exposed to topics that help prepare them for post secondary education, and career exploration. RECYCLING SERVICES Goodwill's Chesapeake Recycling Center is a state-of-the-art, award-winning facility located within GICO's corporate plant. Approximately ten million pounds of goods were recycled in 2011. Recycled materials include: clothing, plastics, shoes, computers, paper, glass and even Styrofoam! RECYCLING TECHNICIAN TRAINING A paid training program that provides information about community support services and provides career advancement assistance.
