About A truly one-of-a-kind structure on the National Register of Historic Places Served as the Pottawattamie County Jail from 1885 until 1969. www.TheHistoricalSociety.org Story The Squirrel Cage Jail, originally known as Pottawattamie County Jail was built in 1885 and was used until 1969. It is now a museum. We are open April through October for walk in tours. November to the end of March are tours by appointment.
