About Type: Police Departments Population Served: 34,632 Number of Officers: 42 Story Our department has an authorized strength of 67 employees. We have 42 sworn Officers. They are assigned to the Patrol Division, the Criminal Investigation Division, Community and Technical Services Division which includes our School Resource Officer. Other sworn Officers include the Chief, Deputy Chief, and three Lieutenants who are assigned to the Criminal Division, the Patrol Division and Support Services. We have one Administrative Secretary, two Tele-Communicator II Supervisors (one in records and one in communications), three Police Clerks (2 assigned to the front office and one to the Criminal Division), one part time Data Entry Clerk, and one Public Safety Employee. We have an IT Supervisor who also helps to oversee the 911 center. Our 911 center answers all 911 calls, dispatches for our department, NP Fire and Rescue department, Priority Medical, Lincoln Co. Sheriff’s office and the Gothenburg Police. We have 12 Dispatchers that work in our 911 center. We have one full time Evidence Technician. The Animal Control Division is also in our department, they consist of one Animal Control supervisor, two Animal Control Officers and one Shelter Attendant. We also have one volunteer Police Chaplain that is a very valuable asset to our department. Mission It is the mission of the North Platte Police Department to preserve the peace and order and to enforce the laws, ordinances, and rulings of the State and City. This mission shall be accomplished by the effective performance of the following functions: - Maintenance of law enforcement presence and availability 24 hours a day. - Timely and rapid response to criminal incidents and other requests for police services. - Preliminary investigation of criminal offenses and apprehension of perpetrators of crimes. - Maintenance of a smooth, orderly, and safe flow of traffic and the active enforcement of traffic laws. - Performance of crime prevention and other public information activities designed to involve citizens in maintaining public safety. - Provision of other services, as necessary, to help accomplish the overall mission.
